Polish operational command reported that its duty pairs of F‑16s and MiG‑29s intercepted Russian aircraft operating without flight plans and with transponders turned off.
Such activity constituted a real threat to air traffic safety, the statement said.
NATO procedures applied
All actions were carried out in full compliance with NATO’s binding procedures.
Polish pilots conducted visual identification and escorted the hostile aircraft beyond the area of responsibility.

The integrated air‑defence system remains operational around the clock and is fully integrated with the NATO system.
Poland’s Air Forces maintain constant readiness for immediate reaction to any threat.
No breaches of Polish airspace
Despite the tension, none of the intercepted aircraft entered Polish airspace.
