Nawrocka Addresses White House Summit

First Lady Marta Nawrocka stated at a technology in education summit at the White House that child safety in the digital world must be a fundamental principle, not an afterthought.

The meeting, organized by Melania Trump, began with a presentation by a robot and featured Nawrocka alongside Mrs. Trump and other first ladies and gentlemen during the second day of the “Fostering the Future Together” summit.

AI and Educational Equity

Nawrocka stressed that leaders’ choices will determine whether technology enhances children’s education and promotes equal opportunities or exacerbates inequalities.

She advocated for a comprehensive approach encompassing education on safe technology use, support for parents and teachers, and accountability from technology creators, who should prioritize children’s well-being during the design process.

Investment in People and Critical Thinking

The Polish First Lady urged investment not only in technology but also in educators and the development of critical thinking and creativity among children.

She emphasized that decisions made today will shape whether the digital world becomes a space of opportunity or division for future generations.

Robotics and Personalized Learning

The discussion unexpectedly began with a presentation by the humanoid robot, Figure-03, which greeted guests in a female voice. Melania Trump discussed the role of such robots in education, envisioning a future where a humanoid robot named Plato could personalize learning for each student.

Mrs. Trump described Plato as a patient and always-available tutor capable of adapting to each student’s needs, fostering deep thinking and independent reasoning, and even considering their emotional state.

Global Perspectives on Technology in Education

Brigitte Macron, the First Lady of France and a teacher, shared French experiences with restrictions on smartphone use in schools and efforts to combat screen addiction.

Participants also included the sister of the King of Morocco, the wife of the UAE’s Foreign Minister, First Ladies from Sierra Leone, Malawi, and Panama, and the First Gentleman of Kosovo.
