Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski will meet US Senator Marco Rubio during a trip to the US, including a controversial stop at the Birtmore Hotel in Miami.
Controversial Trip Details
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski faced criticism after announcing his trip to the US to meet US Senator Marco Rubio. The controversy began with a planned stop at the historic Birtmore Hotel in Miami-Coral Gables, where a Solidarity Award will be presented to an unnamed Cuban opposition activist.
Meeting with US Official: “I will meet my American counterpart tomorrow,” Sikorski said of his upcoming talks with Rubio.
Mateusz Morawiecki’s Criticism
Polish Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki criticized the trip, saying Sikorski’s stated goal of meeting with Rubio to discuss Cuban rights issues was “unsettling.”
“Sikorski is traveling specifically to present $1 million to the Cuban community and use this meeting as an opportune moment to catch up with Marco Rubio, who is a great supporter of Cuban rights,” Morawiecki said on Radio ZET.
Polish President’s First Overseas Trip
Polish President Karol Nawrocki will make his first overseas visit to the US, meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.
The meeting, scheduled for 11:00 local time, is expected to last about two hours and include a tour of the Situation Room and Oval Office. Trump’s meetings with foreign dignitaries typically last between 30 and 60 minutes, with brief press conferences afterward.
