Poland’s Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) has issued an urgent warning about a batch of fish sold at Biedronka stores containing dangerous Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

The GIS has alerted consumers to a contaminated batch of fish sold at the Biedronka supermarket chain. The fish, produced on behalf of Jeronimo Martins Polska S.A., the owner of Biedronka, tested positive for the dangerous Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

Consuming the product poses a risk of listeriosis, a serious infection.

Symptoms of Listeriosis

Listeriosis can manifest with flu-like symptoms, including fever and muscle aches. In severe cases, it can lead to meningitis or sepsis. Individuals experiencing symptoms after consuming the product should immediately consult a doctor.

Customers who purchased fish at Biedronka are urged to check the product label for the specific batch number.

Producer and Distributor Response

Both the producer, Koral S.A., and the distributor, Jeronimo Martins Polska S.A., have taken immediate action in response to the contamination.

GIS Recommendations for Consumers

The GIS advises consumers not to consume product with batch number 510794. It is recommended to discard the product or return it to the store. Medical attention should be sought if any symptoms develop.
