Government Opens Hydropower Development Sites

In December 2025, Państwowe Gospodarstwo Wodne Wody Polskie (State Water Management Polish Waters) published a list of nearly 4,000 locations “for hydropower development”.

The sites represent potential locations where hydropower infrastructure could be developed, utilizing existing hydrotechnical infrastructure on state-owned land.

Investor Applications Begin

Investors were invited to apply to lease state-owned land with existing hydrotechnical infrastructure to develop hydropower plants under preferential terms.

The announcement has already drawn dozens of phone calls from interested investors seeking to develop these sites.

Government Vision for Renewable Energy

Mateusz Balcerowicz, president of Wody Polskie, stated that these actions demonstrate Poland’s ability to use its potential responsibly and in alignment with climate goals.

According to Balcerowicz, these initiatives support the country’s long-term policies for renewable energy development, energy transformation, and climate objectives.
