Polish Judges Invite President to Public Oath-Taking

Four Constitutional Tribunal judges, excluded from a presidential swearing-in ceremony, have invited President Karol Nawrocki to administer their oaths in Parliament.

Judges Extend Invitation After Presidential Exclusion

Marcin Dziurda, one of the four judges not invited to the Presidential Palace for the oath-taking, sent a letter to President Karol Nawrocki emphasizing his obligation to immediately begin serving as a judge.

In the letter, dated Tuesday, Dziurda invited the President to the plenary hall of the Sejm (Polish Parliament) on April 9, 2026, at 1:30 PM to administer the oath and allow him to assume his duties as a Constitutional Tribunal judge.

Remaining Judges Issue Similar Requests

Krystian Markiewicz, also selected as a Constitutional Tribunal judge in March, stated that the remaining three judges – Maciej Taborowski and Anna Korwin-Piotrowska – sent analogous letters to the President.

All four judges extended the same invitation time of 1:30 PM to President Nawrocki.

President Cites Vacancies in Tribunal Composition

President Karol Nawrocki has so far administered the oath to two of the six judges elected by the Sejm on March 13th: Dariusz Szostek and Magdalena Bentkowska.

Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the President’s Legal Department, justified accepting oaths from only two judges, stating that two vacancies existed within the Tribunal during President Nawrocki’s term, and swearing in two judges fulfilled the legal requirement of an 11-member full composition.

Analysis of Remaining Judges Ongoing

When the Sejm selected the judges in March, the Tribunal consisted of nine members.

According to information provided by Bogucki, the Presidential Chancellery is currently analyzing the situation of the remaining four judges and has not yet made a decision regarding their oaths.
