A 28-year-old Polish man was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old on a Warsaw tram Monday evening, facing up to 20 years in prison.
Tram Attack and Initial Response
Passengers and police swiftly intervened after a 28-year-old man attacked a 20-year-old on a tram in Warsaw, stabbing him at least twice in the abdomen with a 12-centimeter blade.
The attack occurred after the assailant allegedly targeted a passenger speaking Ukrainian. Thanks to the quick reactions of the victim, fellow passengers, and responding officers, no one was injured.
Suspect Apprehension and Investigation
Police officers patrolling Aleje Jerozolimskie quickly apprehended the 28-year-old, securing a large kitchen knife at the scene. The suspect was found to be sober during a breathalyzer test.
Investigators conducted procedural activities with the suspect, and the case materials were transferred to the Warsaw Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office.
Charges and Detention
The suspect has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm, an offense carrying a potential sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment.
The Warsaw Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office requested a three-month pre-trial detention, which was granted by the court. The suspect will remain in custody for the duration of the investigation.
