Polish Man Arrested for Brutal Attack on Homeless Ukrainian Citizen in Warsaw

A 48-year-old Polish man has been arrested in Warsaw for critically injuring a 20-year-old Ukrainian man experiencing homelessness following a dispute.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Police from the Wilcza Street precinct have apprehended a 48-year-old Polish citizen for the brutal assault of a 20-year-old Ukrainian man in central Warsaw. The victim, who was experiencing homelessness, was hospitalized in critical condition as a result of the attack.

The suspect was detained just hours after the incident in Świętokrzyski Park, thanks to swift operational actions by the criminal division of the Śródmieście (city center) precinct.

Details of the Assault

Surveillance footage shows the suspect approaching the victim, who was seated on a bench, and beginning to strike him. The attack was described as very brutal, causing the 20-year-old to lose consciousness and fall behind the bench.

Background of the Conflict

Investigators determined that the attack stemmed from a verbal dispute several days prior regarding inappropriate behavior. The older man reportedly took issue with the younger man’s conduct and later decided to “administer justice” when he encountered him again.

Legal Proceedings and Potential Sentence

The suspect has been charged with causing serious bodily harm to the 20-year-old, who sustained head injuries that threatened his life. The prosecutor’s office requested a temporary arrest, which was granted by the court.

The 48-year-old will remain in custody for the next several months, facing a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison. The case is being supervised by the Warsaw Śródmieście-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office.

Call for Public Awareness

Authorities remind the public to react appropriately in situations involving threats and to not be indifferent to the plight of others, emphasizing that a simple call to 112 can save a life.
