Two Polish men have been arrested and charged in Przasnysz, Poland, for allegedly attacking Ukrainian citizens with a machete on February 19, 2026.
Investigation Launched into Nationally Motivated Assault
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrołęka is investigating a brutal attack that occurred on February 19, 2026, in Przasnysz. Two men are accused of attacking Ukrainian citizens due to their nationality, using violence and a machete.
Details of the Attack Unfold
Investigators determined that Mateusz P. and Sebastian Ś. entered the property in Przasnysz where Ivan S., Vasyl H., and Radosław P. resided. Ivan S. and Vasyl H. are citizens of Ukraine.
According to Prosecutor Elżbieta Edyta Łukasiewicz, one of the attackers struck Ivan S. with a machete. Vasyl H. attempted to intervene and was also struck in the right hand with the machete.
Intervention Prevents Further Violence
The attack was reportedly halted when Radosław P. exited the house. He, along with Vasyl H., pulled Ivan S. inside and locked the door, preventing further assault.
Injuries Sustained by Victims
Both victims sustained hand and finger injuries. Ivan S. suffered a wound to the back of his right hand and the base of three fingers, without tendon damage. Vasyl H. sustained cuts to three fingers on his right hand. In both cases, the injuries caused health issues lasting less than seven days.
Suspects Apprehended and Charged
Mateusz P. was arrested and charged with violence motivated by nationality, assault, endangering life or health, and causing bodily harm as a repeat offender. He confessed to the charges and stated the motive was the victims’ Ukrainian nationality.
Sebastian Ś. initially evaded authorities but was apprehended on April 3, 2026, at 5:24 PM in Przasnysz, hiding at his aunt’s residence.
Sebastian Ś. faces identical charges as Mateusz P., also as a repeat offender. He confessed to participating in the assault, using the machete, and causing bodily harm, stating he had limited recollection due to alcohol consumption.
Pre-Trial Detention Ordered
Both suspects have been placed in temporary detention. They face up to 12 years in prison if convicted of the charges, considering their repeat offender status.
