Maciej Konieczny, a Polish MP from the Together party, criticized Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski during a parliamentary session, wearing a scarf with Palestinian colors while raising concerns about the Gaza strip.
MP Konieczny Criticizes Lack of Action on Gaza Strip
During Tuesday’s (September 9) parliamentary session, politicians discussed the dire situation in the Gaza Strip caused by Israeli actions. MPs Roman Fritz, Daria Gosek-Popiołek, and Maciej Konieczny spoke up. Left party MP Gosek-Popiołek called for guarantees of safety for the flotilla’s crew coming to Gaza’s aid and urged the government to act against Israeli crimes: “It’s time for Poland to react to Israel’s atrocities.”
Together Party MP Calls for Sanctions Against Israel
Konieczny also mentioned the humanitarian flotilla heading to Gaza. “In the face of official inaction, hundreds of people from around the world have formed a peaceful flotilla to break the illegal blockade on Gaza. The courageous and determined participants of the flotilla deserve respect, not threats from Poland’s Foreign Minister.”
The Together Party MP argued that Poland should impose sanctions on Israel and cut all cooperation with the country. “It’s already too late. Delaying action is complicity,” he emphasized.
Franciszek Sterczewski Appeals to Foreign Minister
Among the flotilla’s participants is Franciszek Sterczewski. He initially appealed to Radosław Sikorski in early September. The minister responded with a social media post, where he referred to the fermamentarius (a Polish non-profit organization) and questioned whether the state should finance evacuation efforts. “What do you think?” asked Sikorski. Sterczewski replied: “Radek, as you know, I’m part of the Polish delegation going to Gaza as part of the Global Sumud flotilla. If you get an unlawful detention by IDF, make sure to contact me.”
