Police Appeal for Calm, Dismiss Speculation
Śląska police have appealed for calm and urged the public to refrain from speculation regarding the death of MP Łukasz Litewka. Authorities stated there is currently no evidence to suggest the collision was intentional.
Police also requested that anyone with information or who witnessed the accident contact them or the prosecutor’s office, including drivers with dashcam footage from the area.
MP Litewka’s Death: Initial Findings
Łukasz Litewka, a 36-year-old MP from the Lewica (Left) party and known for his charitable work, died after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza on Thursday afternoon.
Preliminary investigations suggest the 57-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi Colt may have fallen asleep or become incapacitated, causing the vehicle to cross into the opposite lane and collide with Litewka. Paramedics attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful.
Driver Detained, Investigation Ongoing
The driver of the Mitsubishi Colt has been detained. A breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system, but a blood sample was taken for further analysis, including screening for other substances.
Investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, based on evidence collected at the scene, expert analysis, and other materials. A press conference detailing the investigation’s progress is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
