Polish MP Mejza Fined Again for Speeding

Łukasz Mejza, a Polish MP, received another speeding ticket after allegedly exceeding the speed limit on an expressway near Zielona Góra.

MP Mejza Receives Second Speeding Fine

RMF FM reported on Tuesday, April 14th, that Łukasz Mejza was issued another speeding ticket. He was reportedly stopped by traffic police near Zielona Góra.

Mejza allegedly drove on an expressway at over 150 km/h. Police fined him 800 złoty and added nine penalty points to his license.

Immunity Waiver Process

In March, two letters from Łukasz Mejza were submitted to the Sejm, renouncing his parliamentary immunity in connection with traffic violations. The Speaker of the Sejm referred these statements to the relevant committee for review.

The committee convened on Wednesday, but Mejza did not attend. The Bureau of Expert Analysis and Regulatory Impact Assessment deemed Mejza’s waiver statements formally correct. With no objections, the committee confirmed the validity of his consent to be held accountable.

Police and GITD Seek Penalties

The Main Police Headquarters and the Chief Inspectorate of Road Transport (GITD) are seeking penalties against Mejza. The initial incident occurred on October 13th, 2023, on the S3 expressway near Polkowice, where he was allegedly driving at 200 km/h in a 120 km/h zone.

Police initially sought a 2,500 złoty fine and 15 penalty points, but Mejza invoked his immunity. Subsequently, police requested a waiver of his immunity, which was forwarded through the Prosecutor General to the Speaker of the Sejm.

GITD is pursuing nine traffic violations registered by speed cameras.

Previous Speeding Incident and Promise to Waive Immunity

In mid-October, Mejza announced he would waive immunity regarding the S3 speeding incident. He pledged to pay the 2,500 złoty fine and donate an equivalent amount to a road accident victim support fund.

Mejza expressed regret and promised the situation would not repeat. He initially explained he didn’t accept the initial fine because he was rushing to the airport and feared missing his flight.
