Polish parliament rejects no-confidence motion against agriculture minister as Tusk criticizes PiS for about-face on Mercosur trade deal.
PiS Accuses Government on Mercosur Deal
Law and Justice (PiS) lawmakers criticized the agriculture minister for allowing the signing of an agreement between the European Union and Mercosur countries.
During the debate before the no-confidence vote, Donald Tusk reminded that in 2019, when PiS was in power, PiS politicians declared their willingness to sign an agreement with Mercosur.
Tusk on PiS’s “Repeating Lies” Strategy
“A few words about this debate and the reasons for the action taken by the PiS club. I will try to adapt to the language of the proposers,” said Tusk. “I’m not surprised that Jarosław ‘Mercosur’ Kaczyński and Mateusz ‘Mercosur’ Morawiecki participated in this debate.”
“The club that submitted this request is responsible not only for Mercosur but also for the Green Deal and Ukrainian grain. It is famous for the principle that a lie repeated a thousand times becomes truth,” Tusk added.
Tusk Defends Agriculture Minister
“I don’t know what is worse for Polish agriculture: your governments or the flood. All your words, shouts, and screams are meant to undermine trust in the strategic choice of a strong, independent Poland in a strong, united Europe,” the prime minister said to PiS politicians.
“Minister Stefan Krajewski is a decent, strong man who serves the Republic well and will continue to be minister, whether you like it or not,” Tusk added.
Krajewski on PiS and Mercosur
Krajewski stated that “Mercosur is the illegitimate child of Beata Szydło and Mateusz Morawiecki, whom all PiS agriculture ministers cared for.”
“A child that you abandoned and today demand alimony from us,” he said. Krajewski added that the no-confidence motion is “an act of political revenge” from PiS.
