Committee Holds Re‑enactment Vote
The Sejm’s Committee on Finance and Public Affairs voted to re‑enact the cryptocurrency market law in its current form. President Duda had deemed the provisions a threat to Poland’s economic freedom, declined to sign the bill, and sent it back to Parliament for reconsideration.
Parliament Rejects the Veto
In a session held after the public portion, 435 MPs cast votes. The motion to reject the president’s veto passed with 243 votes in favour and 192 against, meeting the required three‑fifth majority.
Tusk Calls the Situation “Problematic”
Donald Tusk addressed the Sejm, stating that some right‑wing politicians with significant positions are well‑versed in cryptocurrencies and that the market is being infiltrated by Russian, Belarusian, and other former Soviet entities. He urged the rejection of the veto to provide tools for monitoring the sector.
