Glider Collision and Injuries

A Polish pilot died on Sunday following a collision between two gliders above Boriszov mountain, part of the Great Fatra range, according to Žilina police.

A Czech citizen in the same glider sustained head injuries. An Austrian pilot flying the second glider was unharmed.

Rescue Operation

A rescue team from the Air Transport-Europe (ATE) helicopter base in Banská Bystrica was dispatched to the remote, mountainous crash site.

ATE spokesperson Zuzana Hopjakova informed the TASR agency that the Czech citizen suffered head and lower limb injuries but remained conscious, while the other pilot died from his injuries.

International Competition Disrupted

The pilots were participating in the FCC international gliding competition, which began Sunday at the Prievidza airfield near Trenčín.

The competition, involving dozens of glider pilots from various countries, was scheduled to run until April 23rd. Lubosz Janoszik, head of flight operations at the airfield, stated that Sunday’s competitions were cancelled following the accident.
