Polish Police Launch Nationwide “Speed” Operation

Today, November 27, traffic police are enforcing speed limits across Poland—including Warsaw and the Masovian region—as part of a nationwide crackdown on over‑speeding.

Nationwide Speed Enforcement

On Thursday, November 27, traffic police carried out control‑preventive operations across the country under the codename “Speed,” focusing on drivers’ compliance with legal speed limits.

Methodology of Checks

The checks covered national, provincial and local roads, employing static measurements with handheld laser meters and dynamic monitoring using marked and unmarked patrol cars fitted with video recorders.

High‑Risk Areas Targeted

Special emphasis was placed on segments with high crash rates, pedestrian crossings, bike lanes and intersections. Dedicated “SPEED” units were deployed to respond quickly to the most dangerous driving behaviors, including severe speed violations.

Holistic Safety Checks

Police also examined driver sobriety, the way children were transported, seat‑belt usage and vehicle technical condition. Analyses show excessive speed remains a leading cause of serious road accidents, so similar operations will continue.

Legal Framework and Speed Limits

Speed limits in Poland are established by Article 20 of the Road Traffic Act of 20 June 1997, which specifies limits for different road types.
