Polish Prime Minister Cryptically Addresses NATO, Hopes Things Have Not Changed

On November 29, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk addressed NATO in a cryptic social‑media post, hoping that nothing has changed.

Tusk Addresses NATO Members

Donald Tusk posted a message on November 29 highlighting that NATO was established to defend the West from Soviet‑era aggression, namely Russia. He stressed that the alliance’s foundation is solidarity, not selfish interests, and added, “I hope nothing has changed.”

Former adviser Stanisław Żaryn replied, questioning whether the prime minister can find better communication channels with NATO allies and suggesting that Poland’s security guarantees may be uncertain.

Talks on Peace Plan

The post appeared just before a meeting in the United States between a Ukrainian delegation and advisors to former U.S. President Donald Trump. Discussions are set for the following week, focusing on the president’s peace plan for Ukraine, created without prior European ally input.

The Ukrainian delegation includes National Security Council head and Defense Minister Rustem Umierow and Deputy Head of Diplomacy Serhii Kislicy. Trump’s representative for the talks is Steve Witkoff, who may later travel to Moscow to meet Vladimir Putin after discussions with Ukrainian officials.

NATO on Defending Member States

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte repeatedly affirmed that the alliance will defend all member territories. He said the alliance is defensive but not naïve, and if a direct threat arises, NATO will use all available means.

Rutte also noted that Russia remains the main destabilizing force for the foreseeable future, while the alliance’s priority is to increase defense spending and accelerate arms production.
