Polish Railway Failure: PKP Crisis Team Deployed as Passengers Express Fury

Serious catenary failure at Zbąszynek station forces PKP to establish crisis team, canceling Berlin trains and angering passengers.

Railway Failure at Zbąszynek Station

PKP reported a serious catenary failure that occurred on Tuesday, January 20th at approximately 3:20 PM at Zbąszynek station in the Lubusz Voivodeship, Świebodzin County. “There was a break in the catenary network. Appropriate services are already at the scene, working to remove the failure as quickly as possible, but passengers must expect disruptions,” said Radosław Śledziński from PKP PLK S.A. in an interview with “Gazeta Lubuska”. This includes the suspension of train services to Berlin.

Replacement Transportation Established

In response to the disruptions, replacement bus transportation has been implemented. “We have established a special crisis management team. In cooperation with carriers, we are trying to minimize the negative effects of the failure. Some long-distance trains will be redirected via circular routes, and for regional services, replacement bus transportation will be introduced,” said Radosław Śledziński in an interview with TVN24.

Passenger Anger Over Transportation Arrangements

According to reports from ePoznan.pl, several problems have emerged. According to one passenger, “Koleje Wielkopolskie cannot organize replacement transportation.” The woman sent a photo of an overcrowded bus as proof. “They tried to cram people from three trains into one bus. Quoting the conductor, ‘their dispatcher is not answering the phone’. The bus driver says his working time is running out because this is not how it was supposed to look,” wrote the passenger in a message sent to ePoznan.pl.
