Polish Retailers Shorten Easter Saturday Hours in 2026

Major Polish supermarkets, including Biedronka and Lidl, will close earlier than legally permitted on Easter Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Easter Saturday 2026 Shopping: Reduced Hours

Despite laws allowing trade until 2:00 PM, major retailers have decided to shorten operating hours. Networks like Biedronka, Lidl, and Kaufland have already announced changes to store schedules.

It’s important to be aware of these changes to avoid being caught off guard when planning your Easter shopping.

Good Friday: Standard Shopping Hours

Good Friday (April 3, 2026) is not a statutory non-trading day in Poland, meaning stores will remain open according to their usual schedules. Some retailers may even extend their hours to accommodate increased customer traffic.

Easter Saturday Restrictions

Easter Saturday is subject to statutory trading restrictions. Sales are only permitted until 2:00 PM, according to the law.

Legal Basis for Restrictions

The law prohibits trade and related activities in retail establishments after 2:00 PM on the Saturday immediately preceding Easter Sunday (Article 8, paragraph 1 of the Act of January 10, 2018, on restricting trade on Sundays and holidays).

Earlier Closures Common

Many supermarkets will close even before the legally allowed 2:00 PM, leaving limited time for Easter shopping. Most are expected to close by 1:00 PM, with only select stores remaining open.

Best Strategy: Shop Ahead

As Easter approaches, queues will likely increase, product selection will diminish, and time pressure will mount. The most sensible solution is to complete larger purchases before the weekend, ideally by Thursday or Good Friday.
