Polish Sanatorium Costs to Rise Significantly in 2026

From May 1, 2026, patients seeking treatment at Poland’s National Health Fund (NFZ) sanatoriums will face increased costs, potentially adding hundreds of złoty per stay.

Sanatorium Costs to Increase Sharply from May 2026

Starting May 1, 2026, a new price list will be implemented for sanatoriums covered by the NFZ. Patients can expect to pay several hundred złoty more for a stay, particularly for single rooms.

The Popularity of Spa Treatment

Spa treatment remains popular among Poles, offering a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation combining therapies, physical activity, and a beneficial climate. It provides a chance for real improvement in chronic conditions like circulatory, respiratory, and musculoskeletal issues.

Access to specialized therapies funded by the NFZ is an additional benefit, often costing significantly more privately.

Reasons for the Price Increases

The price increases are mandated by regulations that require sanatorium fees to be updated twice yearly – in May and October. While spa treatments offer numerous health benefits, cost is a growing concern for many patients.

Although the NFZ continues to fund treatments, the costs of accommodation and meals are the patient’s responsibility, and these are increasing.

Cost of a Sanatorium Day from May 1, 2026

The most noticeable price increases will affect higher-standard rooms. Even a small daily difference can add up significantly over the course of a longer stay.

Increased Costs for Standard Stays

A standard spa stay typically lasts 21 or 28 days. For the most expensive option – a single room with a bathroom – costs will increase by up to 232 złoty per stay.

This represents a substantial increase in costs for patients planning extended stays, potentially exceeding 230 złoty compared to the previous season.

Prices for a 21-day stay will vary depending on the standard of accommodation. Sharing a room remains the most affordable option, with costs decreasing with lower standards and more occupants per room.

Who is Exempt from Sanatorium Fees in 2026?

Not all patients will be required to pay. Those eligible for free stays at sanatoriums include individuals entitled to such benefits under applicable regulations.

Other patients will pay for their stay but are guaranteed free treatments within the scope of spa treatment, as guaranteed by the NFZ.
