Polish Student Evacuated from China After Critical Health Crisis

A 23-year-old Polish student, who fell into a coma following a severe medical crisis in Beijing, was transported via a military flight to Wrocław for urgent specialized treatment.

Medical Emergency in Beijing

The student, who was studying in Beijing, required immediate care after doctors discovered an ovarian teratoma in mid-April. Following surgery, she suffered devastating complications, including peritonitis, pneumonia, encephalitis, duodenal perforation, and a liver abscess.

Logistics of the Military Evacuation

High costs in China and the patient’s comatose state necessitated specialized transport. The Ministry of National Defence approved the mission, with Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirming the flight permits.

Arrival in Wrocław

A Boeing 737 landed at Wrocław airport on Wednesday, June 3, after a 12-hour journey requiring transit permissions from 13 countries. The patient was accompanied by a military medical team and her mother, and has been admitted to the Military Clinical Hospital for detailed examinations.

Financial Burden and Fundraising

Treatment in China cost over $100,000, with intensive care exceeding 5,000 PLN per day excluding medication and specialized procedures. The family has raised over one million PLN to cover the debts in Beijing and ongoing rehabilitation in Poland.
