Poland’s tax authority is processing PIT returns, and taxpayers can check their status online to ensure timely refunds.
Where to Find Information About Your PIT?
The most convenient way to check the status of your tax return is through the official government portal, podatki.gov.pl. This is where the e-Tax Office operates, providing access to submitted declarations without needing to visit an office or call a helpline.
How to Check Your Status
To check the status, log in to the system using one of the available methods. After logging in, navigate to the “Your e-PIT” section, then to the “Submitted Documents” tab, selecting the appropriate tax year.
Status 200 and UPO: Proof of Acceptance
A key element of verification is the Official Receipt Confirmation (UPO). This is the only official document confirming that an electronically submitted declaration has reached the tax office. The UPO is generated automatically when the case receives status 200, indicating the declaration has been correctly submitted and formally accepted by the National Tax Administration (KAS).
However, it’s important to remember that status 200 confirms formal acceptance, not the accuracy of the amounts declared. This document should be kept for at least 5 years in case of a tax audit.
What Do Error Codes Mean? (401, 411, 412, 414)
If your PIT does not receive status 200, it indicates problems with its delivery. Common error statuses include 401, 411, 412, and 414.
In such situations, the declaration will not be processed until the errors are corrected and the PIT is resubmitted.
Paper PIT Returns and Online Verification
Taxpayers who submitted paper returns face a more challenging verification process. There is no automatic system for checking the status online in real-time for paper submissions. To find out if the document has been processed, you must contact the tax office by phone or visit in person.
While a paper PIT may eventually be entered into the e-Tax Office system, this process takes significantly longer than electronic filing. If the same PIT is submitted in both formats, the tax office will process the version received first.
When Will the Money Be Paid Into Your Account?
You often learn about the successful processing of your PIT when the tax refund is credited to the bank account indicated in the declaration. You can also monitor the estimated refund date in the e-Tax Office. Quickly addressing any error statuses (from the 4xx series) can help avoid delays in payment.
