A 13-year-old boy was found dead in his home in Harklowa, Poland on March 24th, with initial investigations failing to determine the cause of death.
Tragedy in Harklowa
The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 24th, in Harklowa, Podkarpackie province. The boy’s parents discovered him unresponsive in his room when he did not wake up for school.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called shortly after 7:00 AM, and police were notified soon after.
Autopsy Reveals No Clear Cause
An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday at the Forensic Medicine Institute in Krakow. Experts were unable to determine the cause of death, necessitating further toxicological and histopathological tests, according to Deputy District Prosecutor Henryk Zabawa.
No Evidence of Foul Play or Suicide
The preliminary expert opinion excludes the involvement of third parties in the teenager’s death. Current findings also suggest the 13-year-old did not take his own life.
Lung and Brain Swelling Observed
The pathologist noted swelling and congestion in the boy’s lungs and brain during the autopsy, but found no evidence of an embolism. Additional tests are being conducted to rule out drug or medication use as a potential cause of the swelling, stated District Prosecutor Anna Rogowska.
Rogowska added that the case is puzzling even for the medical examiner.
Investigation Ongoing
The investigation is being conducted under the assumption of unintentional death, a standard procedure in unexplained deaths.
Evidence Collected and Witnesses to be Questioned
Police have secured the boy’s phone and computer for analysis, as well as blood samples for testing. His parents will be questioned, and his medical records will be reviewed.
According to the parents, the 13-year-old felt well and reported no complaints on Monday.
