Vegetable prices in Poland are spiking, with tomatoes reaching record levels and impacting consumer costs across the country.
Vegetable Price Increases
Domestic vegetable prices under cover are high for this time of year; raspberry tomatoes cost 20-27 zł per kg, approximately 26 percent more than last year, according to PAP’s Maciej Kmera from the Bronisze wholesale market.
Greek strawberries are priced at 11 zł, while Polish strawberries are expected to be available after the May long weekend.
Tomato and Cucumber Costs
Domestic vegetables under cover remain exceptionally expensive for this time of year. Raspberry tomatoes are particularly costly, ranging from 20 to 27 zł/kg, due to demand exceeding supply. Growers anticipate increased deliveries after Easter.
Greenhouse cucumber prices are stable at 8-9 zł/kg. Field-type cucumbers have slightly decreased in price to 16-18 zł/kg. The supply of domestic radishes and chives is slowly increasing, priced at 3.25-4 zł per bunch and 2–2.5 zł respectively. However, young nettles remain expensive, costing 5-6 zł per bunch with limited availability, according to Kmera.
Imported Vegetable Prices
Imported vegetables under cover are also expensive. Cauliflower has risen to 17 zł per piece in recent days due to increasing transport costs and weather conditions in southwestern Europe. However, recent information suggests that vegetables imported from Spain and Italy will become cheaper in the coming days.
Spanish and Turkish tomatoes remain very expensive, with prices ranging from 16-22 zł/kg.
Potato Price Fluctuations
Experts noted a significant drop in wholesale prices of young Egyptian potatoes, now costing 2 zł per kg. This is considered bad news for domestic growers, who already view the 2025/2026 season as the worst in history, according to Kmera. A kilogram of potatoes currently costs 0.55-1.2 zł at the wholesale market, 38 percent less than last year.
Other Produce and Overall Costs
Young potatoes imported from Greece have appeared in Bronisze, priced at 4-4.5 zł/kg, and are valued for their taste.
Prices of domestic field vegetables from last year’s harvest are variable, with a large surplus causing uncontrolled price drops, especially directly from farmers. Only Chinese cabbage is significantly more expensive, reaching 5-6.5 zł/kg. Minor price increases are observed in domestic carrots and onions, a natural but delayed phenomenon this season.
The entire basket of domestic vegetables is 6 percent more expensive than last year, while imported vegetables are nearly 32 percent more expensive, as of March 23rd.
Fruit Market Trends
Wholesale prices for domestic apples from cold storage range from 2 to 5.5 zł/kg, while Conference pears cost 4.5-6.5 zł per kilogram. The entire basket of domestic fruits is 14 percent cheaper compared to the previous year.
Greek strawberries are available at the Bronisze wholesale market for 11 zł per kilogram. Cooler weather is hindering demand for these fruits and causing prices to fall. In 2025, the price of domestic strawberries rarely fell below 10 zł/kg even at the peak of the season.
Domestic tunnel strawberry growers are forecasting the first deliveries after the May long weekend, with greenhouse-grown fruits appearing earlier but representing a smaller and more expensive share of the market.
Moldovan grapes, valued for their taste, are still available in Bronisze despite their harvest ending six months ago, costing 6.5 zł per kilogram. Their South African counterparts cost 22 zł.
There is considerable interest in watermelons from Mauritania, but cooler weather is limiting demand and causing prices to fall to 6-7 zł/kg.
The entire basket of imported fruits is 15.6 percent more expensive year-on-year. The largest price changes are for white grapes (up 46 percent), blueberries (+40 percent), and lemons (+30 percent); mandarins and grapefruits have decreased in price by 20 percent.
