Polish Veteran Returns Medal to Nawrocki: “It Will Remind You”

Polish veteran returns NATO medal to President Karol Nawrocki over his response to Trump’s controversial remarks about NATO soldiers.

Controversial Trump Remarks

The echoes of Donald Trump’s controversial remarks about NATO soldiers in Afghanistan continue. In an interview with Fox News, the American president stated he “is not sure if NATO will be there if he ever needs it.”

Trump added, “We never needed them. They will say they sent troops to Afghanistan. And they did, but they kept a bit back, a bit away from the front line.”

Nawrocki’s Response

President Karol Nawrocki did not directly condemn Trump’s statement, writing on the X platform, “There is no doubt that Polish soldiers are Heroes. They deserve respect and words of thanks for their service.”

Nawrocki mentioned that 44 brave Poles died in Afghanistan: 43 soldiers and civilians. “They will forever remain in our memory!” he added. Later, Nawrocki said, “I am convinced he did not think about Poland.”

Medal Returned

In response, former military intelligence officer Lt. Col. reserve Maciej Moryc announced he would return the medal he received from Americans for participating in a NATO mission in Afghanistan.

“I can at the right moment hand it over to President Trump, so that Mr. Trump will remember that Polish blood is as red as American soldiers’ blood,” Moryc emphasized.

In a separate recording, Moryc stated, “Mr. President, I am sending you back the medal I received for participating in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan for a year and a half. I hope it will remind you that as the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, it is incumbent upon you to stand guard over the honor and good name of all veterans who participated in this mission.”
