Civic Coalition leader Donald Tusk has officially dissolved the party’s regional structures in Małopolska, appointing Dorota Niedziela as commissioner to oversee reorganization and triggering a major internal leadership shakeup.
Tusk Overhauls Regional Leadership
The National Board of the Civic Coalition has dissolved the party’s regional structures in Małopolska. Dorota Niedziela has been appointed as the regional commissioner, tasked with rebuilding and reorganizing the party’s local framework until a new regional chairman is elected.
The appointment serves as a clear vote of no confidence in Aleksander Miszalski. By losing his position as regional chairman, Miszalski is automatically removed from the Civic Coalition’s national board, where regional leaders serve ex officio.
Snap Elections Loom Over Kraków
The reorganization follows a referendum in which residents voted to recall Aleksander Miszalski from his post as mayor of Kraków. With a turnout of 29.99 percent exceeding the required 26.98 percent threshold, the result mandates early mayoral elections to be held within 90 days.
Political Parties Mobilize for the Race
As the race for the mayoralty begins, several parties have unveiled their candidates. Razem has nominated Aleksandra Owca, who is focusing her platform on housing policy, rent regulation, and support programs for students, seniors, and the unemployed.
Konfederacja has announced Bartosz Bocheńczak, a businessman and secretary of Nowa Nadzieja, as their candidate, aiming to prioritize fiscal reform. Meanwhile, Konfederacja Korony Polskiej has selected Michał Klimek, who has pledged to reform city hall and reduce administrative employment.
The Law and Justice (PiS) party and the New Left have yet to officially announce their candidates, though potential names are circulating within PiS circles as local discussions continue.
