Following a resolution by the National Board, the Civic Coalition (KO) has dissolved its regional structures in Lesser Poland, appointing Dorota Niedziela as commissioner to lead the party’s upcoming reorganization efforts.
Leadership Overhaul in Lesser Poland
Dorota Niedziela has been appointed as regional commissioner, tasked with rebuilding the party’s local structures and preparing for the election of a new chairman. The decision effectively sidelining the current leader, Aleksander Miszalski, signals a lack of confidence in his previous management.
The removal of Miszalski from his regional leadership role has immediate consequences, as it automatically terminates his seat on the National Board of the Civic Coalition, where regional heads serve by virtue of their office.
Referendum Results and the Race for Krakow
Aleksander Miszalski was officially removed from his position as Mayor of Krakow following a recent referendum. With a turnout of 29.99 percent, exceeding the 26.98 percent threshold, the vote is binding and necessitates early mayoral elections within the next 90 days.
Candidates Emerge for the Mayoral Seat
Political parties are beginning to announce their candidates for the upcoming election. The Left Together party has nominated Aleksandra Owca, who is campaigning on housing policy reforms, rent regulation, and support programs for students and seniors.
The Confederation party has selected entrepreneur Bartosz Bocheńczak to run, aiming to prioritize the city’s financial stability. Meanwhile, the Confederation of the Polish Crown has officially nominated Michał Klimek, who has pledged to reform the city’s administration and reduce employment numbers.
The Law and Justice (PiS) party has yet to announce a candidate, with local councilor Michał Drewnicki mentioned as a potential contender. The New Left party has also refrained from naming a candidate, stating that decisions will be handled at the local level.
