A recent poll indicates that 69.21% of Polish respondents believe the EU’s SAFE program, offering substantial defense funding, will benefit Poland.
SAFE Program Sparks Debate
The SAFE program, which proposes EU financial support for armaments, has ignited a significant political and social debate. A recent survey was conducted to gauge public opinion on the program, with results available here.
Clear Preference for SAFE
The results of the poll reveal a clear preference for the SAFE program. A substantial majority, 69.21% (4269 votes), believe the program would be beneficial for Poland, as of March 23, 2026.
Conversely, 28.73% (1772 votes) oppose the program, while 2.06% (127 votes) remain undecided. A total of 6168 people participated in the poll.
Billions for Military Modernization
The SAFE program allocates billions of euros for military modernization. An alternative proposal suggests funding these investments through profits from the National Bank of Poland, often referred to as “Polish SAFE 0%”.
Details of the SAFE Initiative
The EU initiative aims to finance defense investments, potentially providing Poland with €43.7 billion (nearly 200 billion złoty) in the form of low-interest loans with a 10-year repayment deferral and a 45-year settlement period.
The program also includes support for the domestic arms industry and companies collaborating with the military. Discussion surrounding the program intensified following a presidential veto on March 12, 2026.
