Pope Leo XIV interrupted his general audience at the Vatican to assist an elderly priest who fainted while waiting in line, likely due to the intense heat in St. Peter’s Square.
Incident at the General Audience
The incident occurred at the conclusion of the general audience in the Vatican. An elderly priest, waiting in line to greet the Pope, fainted, likely due to the high temperatures.
Papal Intervention
Pope Leo XIV, who was positioned on a covered platform just a few meters away, observed the incident. He immediately descended from the dais, approached the priest, and knelt beside him to assess his condition. The scene was captured on video and subsequently published by Italian media.
Medical Assistance and Recovery
Vatican staff members arrived shortly after to provide first aid. The priest was moved from the sun-exposed St. Peter’s Square in a wheelchair. Only after the priest was attended to did Pope Leo XIV return to his place to continue the audience.
