Powerful Explosion in Braniewo, Walls Ejected From Building

A powerful explosion struck a block on Plac Strażacki in Braniewo on Monday before 2 p.m., ejecting walls and injuring one person.

The Explosion

According to local media, on Monday before 2 p.m. a blast occurred at the block on Plac Strażacki in Braniewo. Portalbraniewo.pl reported a powerful explosion heard by residents, and local journalists suggest it was caused by a gas cylinder.

Emergency Services Response

The State Fire Brigade commander, Ireneusz Ścibiorek, informed the portal that there were no casualties but one person was injured. The Olsztyn Provincial Police Headquarters also notified the incident. Police were at the scene, where they secured the site, evacuated 50 residents to safer locations, and transported the injured to a hospital.

Extent of Structural Damage

Building manager Andrzej Krzywiec said that two walls—on both sides of the damaged section—were completely destroyed. The blast caused significant structural harm to the building.

Resident Impact

Prior to the explosion, the apartment housed a mother and her son, the only two occupants of the unit.
