Polish President Karol Nawrocki has vetoed the proposed chain law and a fur‑banning bill, and will submit a new law to lift chain restrictions.
Veto of the Chain Law
President Nawrocki said the chain law, intended to protect animals, was poorly drafted and would create new problems rather than help. He criticised its unrealistic standards for dog enclosures and the difficulty of enforcement.
President Proposes Alternative Law
He announced a presidential draft that would remove chain requirements for dogs, avoid unrealistic fencing mandates, and promise swift implementation. The proposal aims to genuinely improve animal welfare.
Fur Bans Law Signed
Alongside the chain law, the president vetoed a bill banning fur farming. He explained the bill contains compensation for early closing farmers, support for workers, and an eight‑year transition period.
Government Spokesman Responds
Government spokesman Adam Szłapka criticised the veto, calling it a hardship for those who cannot defend themselves and suggesting the president’s decision is hard‑to‑undo.
