President Karol Nawrocki signed legislation Friday evening aimed at curbing rising fuel costs, including a potential price cap.
New Legislation Approved
President Karol Nawrocki signed laws designed to lower fuel prices, announced by presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz on platform X Friday evening.
The new regulations will allow for measures to limit fuel price increases at stations, including the introduction of a maximum price.
Parliamentary Approval
On Friday, the Sejm approved, and the Senate adopted without amendment, amendments to the Act on oil reserves, petroleum products and natural gas, and the rules of procedure in situations threatening the fuel security of the state and disruptions in the oil market, as well as the Act on the National Revenue Administration.
Also amended was the Act on excise duty.
Effective Date and Purpose
The purpose of both laws is to reduce fuel prices at stations. Both legal acts will come into force the day after their publication in the Journal of Laws.
Price Cap Mechanism
The amendment to the Act on oil reserves introduces a mechanism for calculating the maximum fuel price that will be in effect at stations.
Temporary Excise Duty Reduction
The amendment to the Act on excise duty will allow for a temporary reduction in excise duty rates on fuels, until June 30th, by regulation.
