President’s Spokesman Responds to Sejm Chancellery Over National Security Council Meeting

President Nawrocki convenes National Security Council meeting, sparking controversy over Sejm Chairman’s eastern business contacts.

President Convenes National Security Council

President Karol Nawrocki has scheduled a National Security Council (RBN) meeting for February 11 at 14:00, announced by presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz on Tuesday, February 3. The meeting will address three key topics: a government loan for the SAFE Program, Poland’s invitation to the Peace Council, and actions regarding “clarification of eastern business and social contacts” of Sejm Chairman Włodzimierz Czarzasty.

Sejm Chairman’s Response

In response, the Sejm Chancellery requested “clarification of the nature of the president’s contacts with pseudo-fans and individuals linked to criminality.” On Wednesday in the Sejm, Czarzasty stated: “Mr. President, I am clean. And you? Let’s discuss this at the National Security Council. First: I won’t be intimidated. Second: I await your statement on your past, which I believe needs to be investigated. Third: I won’t change my approach toward you and what you do. Fourth: I have a request – maybe focus on the problems of Poles, not inciting people against each other.”

Spokesman’s Defense

Presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz commented on Polsat News that “the president convened the National Security Council and set the agenda, as the president is the host of the RBN.” He emphasized that the president has undergone “full security checks” multiple times and received security clearances. Leśkiewicz stated that the president has always submitted to security procedures because he “never had anything to hide,” unlike Czarzasty who, despite serious doubts about his business contacts with Russian individuals, has not clarified the circumstances or their impact on his business.

Security Clearance Information

Earlier on the same day, the spokesman for the minister coordinating special services stated that “Sejm Chairman of the Republic of Poland Włodzimierz Czarzasty, under counterintelligence protection from Polish special services, has access to information with the highest secrecy classification.” Jacek Dobrzyński added on X that “the special services have no reservations in this area and strictly comply with the applicable regulations.”

National Security Council Composition

The National Security Council is an advisory body to the president on internal and external state security. Its members include the Sejm and Senate chairmen, the prime minister, and heads of the most important ministries – national defense, internal affairs and administration, and foreign affairs.
