On November 26, Poland’s Central Anti‑Corruption Bureau detained two prison officers who had smuggled mobile phones and anabolic steroids into a Łódź investigative detention centre in exchange for financial benefits.
Operation Details
On November 26, officers of the Central Anti‑Corruption Bureau (CBA) arrested two Prison Service staff who, in return for material benefits, supplied mobile phones and anabolic steroids to the Łódź investigative detention centre. The CBA seized a large evidentiary cache, including cash, phones, drugs and pharmacological substances.
Scope of the Scheme
Investigators determined the bribery and personal benefit system in the Łódź centre operated from April 2021 to June 2024. The officers regularly delivered and distributed phones and pharmacological agents to inmates. The probe is also reviewing possible irregularities before 2021.
Legal Action
The detained officers were taken before the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź, where they faced charges of public office corruption. A judge imposed a temporary arrest pending the preliminary investigation, described by the CBA as a developmental procedure that may lead to further actions.
