Following a tragic incident at a daycare facility in Ząbki on May 20, prosecutors have confirmed that a two-year-old boy died from drowning after being discovered in a garden pond.
The Discovery and Failed Resuscitation
The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 20. According to Karolina Staros, spokesperson for the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office, staff at the nursery discovered the child and immediately attempted resuscitation, which was subsequently continued by police officers and paramedics. Despite these efforts, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The prosecutor confirmed that the child’s body was found in a water feature located on the premises of the daycare facility.
Autopsy Findings
On Friday, May 22, an autopsy was performed on the toddler. Prosecutor Remigiusz Krynke of the Praga district office announced that the cause of death was drowning, noting that no mechanical injuries were found on the child’s body.
Investigation and Staff Detentions
Police have detained two nursery staff members, aged 53 and 48, for questioning. Prosecutors are currently evaluating whether there are grounds to press charges against the women or if they will be released after being interviewed as witnesses.
Investigators are continuing to gather evidence, which includes conducting interviews with witnesses and reviewing documentation regarding the operational history of the facility.
