Prosecutor Investigating Happy Dog Shelter After 26 Dead Dogs Sent for Examination

Garwolin prosecutor’s office investigating suspected animal abuse at Happy Dog shelter following report from animal protection foundation.

Investigation Initiated

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Garwolin is conducting proceedings regarding suspected animal abuse at the “Happy Dog” shelter. The case, numbered 4179-0.Ds.1946.2025, was initiated following a report from a member of the “Pańska Łaska” Animal Protection Foundation.

Shelter Inspection

On the same day the report was filed, police officers from the Garwolin County Police Station conducted an inspection of the “Happy Dog” shelter with employees of the Garwolin District Veterinary Inspectorate. This activity was recorded in audio-video format.

Legal Proceedings

During the investigation, other procedural actions were taken, including witness testimonies from the veterinary inspector of the Garwolin District Veterinary Inspectorate and veterinarians. As a result, an investigation was launched into the failure to provide proper care for a mixed-breed dog, which led to the deterioration of the animal’s health. The proceedings also concern animal abuse at the “Happy Dog” shelter through numerous neglects causing pain, suffering, and death of animals under Article 35, Section 1a of the Animal Protection Act.

Evidence Collection

Police inspected all kennels where animals could have been kept and a discovered utility room. Samples of feed were taken, and documentation related to the shelter’s operations was secured. Prosecutor Bartłomiej Świderski also indicated that dead animals were sent for further examination.

Dead Animals for Testing

Additionally, a total of 26 dead dogs were sent to the National Veterinary Research Institute in Puławy to conduct autopsies and toxicological tests.

Supervision and Further Actions

The Regional Prosecutor in Siedlce has assumed direct supervision of the case, with the assigned prosecutor analyzing the proceedings and submitting recommendations to the case prosecutor for immediate implementation. The Regional Prosecutor has also requested the Mazowiecka Delegatura NIK in Warsaw and the Regional Veterinary Inspector in Siedlce to conduct appropriate inspections of the shelter within their competencies.
