The National Prosecutors Office presented charges to ex-Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz on Wednesday, September 3, accusing him of leaking classified information as a public official and member of the committee investigating the Smolensk air disaster.

The charges state that Macierewicz, while holding the position of chairman of the Subcommittee for the Reinvestigation of the Air Disaster, allegedly shared “strictly confidential”, “secret”, “confidential”, and “restricted” information that he encountered in conjunction with his role.

Smolensk Crash Context

The information provided to the public allegedly came from classified documents related to the circumstances and causes of the Tu-154 aircraft crash in Smolensk in 2010.
