Following a report filed by Mariusz Błaszczak concerning a Ministry of National Defense charity auction, prosecutors have officially closed the case, finding no evidence of misconduct by a public official.
Public Verdict on Błaszczak’s Political Record
In the wake of the prosecutor’s decision, readers were invited to evaluate the political career of the former Minister of National Defense. The survey, which concluded on June 2, 2026, gathered 35,296 total responses.
Public sentiment leaned heavily toward positive assessments. Approximately 48.66% of respondents rated his performance as “rather positive,” while 38.94% chose “definitely positive,” bringing the total favorable rating to over 87%.
Negative evaluations were significantly lower, with 11.58% of participants choosing “definitely negative” and 0.72% selecting “rather negative.” Only 0.10% of respondents stated they had no opinion on the matter.
The Origin of the Legal Dispute
The controversy dates back to January, when Deputy Minister of National Defense Cezary Tomczyk promoted a charity auction for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP). The prize involved a shooting training session at a military unit in Sieradz.
Mariusz Błaszczak subsequently filed a formal notification with the prosecutor’s office. The Law and Justice (PiS) politician raised concerns regarding the use of military infrastructure, potential overreach of authority by a public official, and possible political gain from the event.
After conducting a preliminary investigation and consulting with institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense, prosecutors refused to initiate formal proceedings. Investigators concluded that no abuse of authority occurred and that the case contained no elements of a criminal offense.
