Prosecutors are investigating a security breach at the National Prosecutor’s Office following a chaotic demonstration by PiS lawmakers and TV Republika staff during the May 20 questioning of Tomasz Sakiewicz.
Sanctions and Investigative Scope
As reported by Gazeta.pl, Tomasz Sakiewicz was summoned for questioning on May 20 regarding the Justice Fund. During the session, he refused to answer most questions, citing journalistic privilege. Consequently, he was fined 3,000 PLN on May 25 for unjustifiably evading testimony.
The National Prosecutor’s Office has now launched an investigation into the conduct of PiS MPs and TV Republika employees during the hearing. Prosecutors are examining whether a criminal disturbance of the peace occurred when individuals forced their way into a protected zone, bypassing security measures managed by the Prison Service.
Identification of Participants and Breach Dynamics
According to TVN24, video footage confirms that several demonstrators ignored official orders and breached security doors. The individuals identified at the scene include TV Republika figures Michał Rachoń, Jarosław Olechowski, Adrian Stankowski, Miłosz Kłeczek, and Janusz Życzkowski.
Several PiS parliamentarians were also present, including Jan Mosiński, Krzysztof Lipiec, and Agnieszka Wojciechowska van Heukelom.
Sakiewicz Claims Institutional Failure
Following his departure from the building, Sakiewicz stated he remains ready to testify if summoned by a legally appointed prosecutor under valid conditions. He asserted that the current proceedings were inconsistent with the stated purpose of his summons.
Addressing the demonstrators, Sakiewicz characterized the Prosecutor’s Office as incompetent, claiming they were unable to issue a proper summons. He further noted a procedural discrepancy, stating that while the summons was signed by Piotr Woźniak, he was ultimately questioned by a different prosecutor.
