National Prosecutor’s Office presented charges to former ABW and SKW heads regarding unauthorized use of Pegasus spy software.
Charges Presented
On Wednesday, February 25, the National Prosecutor’s Office presented charges to former service heads regarding the use of the Pegasus information system. Piotr P. and Maciej M. did not plead guilty and refused to make statements. They face up to three years in prison.
The prosecutor’s office states that Piotr P. allowed the use of Pegasus despite knowing the risk of declassification of operations.
Security Accreditations Not Verified
Investigators determined that the system lacked required security accreditation. According to the prosecutor’s office, both suspects failed to verify whether Pegasus guaranteed security for confidential information with “secret” and “top secret” classifications.
Investigation Timeline
The charges against the former ABW head cover the period from October 2018 to February 2020. The charges against the former SKW head cover the period from June 2018 to February 2022.
The Pegasus spy software investigation was initiated in March 2024. The prosecutor’s office is examining the use of spy software by services and state officials during PiS government times.
Previous Related Case
In December of last year, charges were presented to the former head of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau in this case. Ernest B. is suspected of failing to fulfill official duties.
