Prosecutor’s Office Dismisses Allegations of Helping Sebastian M Escape Poland

The Polish prosecutor’s office has officially closed the investigation into claims that Sebastian M was assisted in fleeing the country after the 2023 A1 highway crash that killed a family.

Investigation into Alleged Assistance

The probe into alleged bribe‑giving assistance related to the A1 highway accident was one of three cases opened in the fall of 2024. It began when the lawyer of the victims’ relatives, Łukasz Kowalski, filed a complaint about possible criminal conduct by the family and friends of Sebastian M. TVN24 reported that there was suspicion the subjects had helped the BMW driver avoid responsibility for the crash.

Prosecutor’s Decision to Dismiss

In November, the prosecutor issued a decision to terminate the investigation concerning hindering criminal proceedings in the September 2023 road accident, citing insufficient evidence to support the alleged offence. The decision was confirmed as final by prosecutor Aleksander Duda in an interview with Onet.

The Piotrków A1 Crash

The accident occurred on 16 September 2023 on the A1 motorway near Piotrków Trybunalski in Łódź Voivodeship. The victims were a married couple and their five‑year‑old son, all of whom died on the scene. Sebastian M is accused of causing the collision.

Extradition and Return to Poland

After the crash, Sebastian M departed for the United Arab Emirates. Cooperation with the BMW driver’s authorities triggered an extradition process, bringing him back to Poland where his trial is ongoing. Onet reports that two other investigative threads—concerning procedural lapses by Piotrków police and the district prosecutor—were also dismissed.
