Rising Applications for Support Benefits
People with disabilities have submitted 845,700 applications to provincial disability assessment teams for decisions necessary to apply for supporting benefits.
This is according to the latest data from the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy (MRPiPS) provided to DGP, covering the period from January 1, 2024.
Regulatory Changes Drive Increase
The surge in applications follows the implementation of new regulations on January 1, 2024, that enabled the submission of these requests.
Seniors Receive Most Decisions
Provincial teams have issued over 630,000 support decisions, with 72 percent going to senior citizens.
Seniors also constitute the majority of individuals receiving the highest level of support, determined at 95 to 100 points on the assessment scale.
