Public Opinion Turns Against Sławomir Mentzen Following Recent Controversy

A recent public poll indicates that nearly 80 percent of respondents view the political activities of Confederation leader Sławomir Mentzen negatively, following his commentary on recent security threats and false alarms.

Reactions to security threats

On May 17, Sławomir Mentzen criticized the response of state services and the ruling camp regarding false bomb threats targeting journalists. He emphasized that state institutions must remain impartial and protect all citizens regardless of their political stance.

Between Thursday and Friday evening, authorities recorded 15 false reports concerning public safety. Investigators are currently probing the potential for a coordinated foreign operation behind these incidents.

Public perception in numbers

A poll conducted by Gazeta.pl, with results collected on May 20, 2026, revealed a stark disapproval of the politician. Out of 1,481 participants, 79.88 percent (1,183 people) expressed a negative opinion of his work.

Only 14.25 percent of respondents rated his activities positively, while 87 individuals stated they had no opinion on the matter.

Controversial political history

Mentzen has long been a polarizing figure, frequently cited for his provocative statements on the European Union, social policy, and the economy. Public debate often returns to his 2019 “five-point plan,” in which he voiced opposition to Jewish people, homosexuals, abortion, taxes, and the EU.

Other controversial remarks include his public endorsement of physical discipline for children and his characterization of the German nationalist party AfD as the most “pro-Polish” party in Germany.
