Putin Convenes Security Council After US Attack on Iran

Russia condemns US military operation against Iran as “unjustified act of aggression,” while Putin calls emergency Security Council meeting.

Russian Condemnation

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the military operation as an “unjustified act of aggression.” In a statement, Moscow emphasized that Washington’s and Tel Aviv’s actions violate international law and lead to destabilization of the entire region. Russia claimed that arguments regarding Iran’s nuclear program are being used as a pretext to achieve broader political objectives.

Moscow’s Accusations

The Russian diplomatic statement accused the United States and Israel of “hiding behind” nuclear security rhetoric while actually seeking to change the leadership in Tehran. Moscow claims the military operation could lead to serious humanitarian consequences and even radiological threats in case of damage to nuclear energy-related infrastructure.

Regional Destabilization Concerns

Russia’s Foreign Ministry stressed that continuation of hostilities could trigger a wave of destabilization across the Middle East. The statement noted that the attacks carry the risk of “humanitarian and radiological catastrophe” if strikes targeted facilities related to Iran’s nuclear program.

Russia’s Historical Position

Moscow’s stance aligns with its established political line toward Tehran. For years, Russia has cooperated with Iran in military and energy spheres, particularly in projects related to civil nuclear energy. In recent years, both countries have also tightened military cooperation, which draws opposition from Western nations.

Putin’s Response

Russian authorities hold the United States and Israel fully responsible for escalating tensions. Meanwhile, they declare readiness for mediation and participation in talks aimed at de-escalating the conflict. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed that in response to the attack on Iran, Vladimir Putin convened a meeting of the Russian Security Council to assess the situation and possible consequences for Russia’s security.

Russian Media Narratives

At the same time, Russian media and officials are intensifying messaging about global destabilization threats. It is worth noting, however, that some information disseminated by Russian sources may be propagandistic and constitute part of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.
