Long lines returned to Warsaw on Fat Thursday, February 12, 2026, as locals flocked to traditional bakeries for donuts.
Main Bakery Crowds
Long queues reappeared at Warsaw’s traditional, craft bakeries on Fat Thursday, February 12, 2026. The most besieged location, as every year, is the “Zagoździński” Confectionery Workshop on Wola at ul. Górczewska 15.
This year, some customers arrived as early as 2:00 AM, with claims of standing in line since “4:30” or “5:15”. By noon, the queue extended down Działdowska Street.
Craft Production and Sales
Queues were visible even in the days leading up to Fat Thursday, with some people willing to wait up to two hours for donuts. The confectionery’s owner emphasized the manual production process: “This has been going on for 101 years. Every jam-filled donut must be wrapped by hand.”
The bakery announced sales restrictions during Fat Thursday week: only in-person sales from February 9-17, and no small donuts from February 9-18. The shop operates “from 9 AM until the last donut is sold.”
Popular Warsaw Bakeries
While the queue on Górczewska is often cited as the longest, long lines also form at other Warsaw bakeries and donut shops on Fat Thursday. Popular locations include Cukiernia Pomianowski (ul. Broniewskiego 12), Cukiernia Pawłowicz (including ul. Chmielna 13), Pączkarnia z Tradycją (ul. Grójecka 78), Słodki Słony (ul. Mokotowska 45), and Piekarnia DEJ (ul. Płatnicza 57).
These craft bakeries see the most visible lines early in the morning, as some people aim to get the first batches before the most popular flavors sell out.
Free Donut Distribution
Additional queues also form at locations where donuts are given away for free. In 2026, the Praga-Południe District Office announced a free donut distribution from 10:00 AM until supplies run out at their residents’ service department at ul. Grochowska 274.
A similar event was announced on Bielany, also from 10:00 AM until supplies run out, at the residents’ service department at ul. Stefana Żeromskiego 29.
