Racist Attack on 11‑Year‑Old; Man Charged, Gives Statement

An 11‑year‑old boy was racially abused and kicked at the end of September in Ostrowi Mazowieckie, where the suspect now faces charges.

Racist attack on 11‑year‑old

The incident took place at the end of September in a residential estate in Ostrowi Mazowieckie. An eleven‑year‑old was hanging out with a friend when an adult male began to insult and then kick him twice near the groin area. The alleged motive was the boy’s skin colour. The child’s father is from Nigeria, which, according to investigators, became the pretext for the racial insults and violence. The boy’s mother reported the case to the police.

Charges against attacker

The 30‑year‑old resident of Ostrowi Mazowieckie faced the charges. The district prosecutor in Ostrołęka charged him with “public insult and use of violence against a minor because of his racial affiliation.” For such offences, a sentence of up to five years in prison is possible. Authorities imposed precautionary liberty measures—police monitoring, a ban on approaching the victim and his mother, and the obligation to report twice a week to the police station.

Suspect denies wrongdoing

The 30‑year‑old denied any guilt. During questioning, he was asked to give explanations “totally inconsistent with the established factual state.” He denied using abusive language and any violence. The basis for the charges, however, was the child’s testimony and evidence gathered by investigators. The minor was questioned in the so‑called blue room, in the presence of a judge and a psychiatric psychologist, as required for child cases. Prosecutors did not disclose details of other evidence.
