Two people died at the scene of a collision between a rail bus and a passenger car at a railway crossing in Susk Nowy (gm. Rzekuń). Police from Ostrołęka, working under prosecutor supervision, investigated the incident for hours.
Incident Details
The accident occurred at 18:30 on February 21 when a Hyundai car collided with a rail bus at a marked railway crossing. The 39-year-old driver and her 16-year-old passenger, both residents of the Ostrołęka district, died at the scene.
Passenger Safety
Seventeen passengers were on the rail bus at the time of the collision. None sustained serious injuries. After necessary procedures, passengers continued their journey on a replacement train provided by the railway operator.
Police Investigation
Police from Ostrołęka’s Road Traffic, Prevention, and Detective-Investigative departments worked at the scene until late hours. They conducted detailed inspections of the vehicles and accident site, took photographs and sketches, and interviewed 17 witnesses to reconstruct the incident and determine its cause.

Authorities are urging particular caution when crossing railway tracks. Vehicles must always stop and ensure no train is approaching. Drivers should not rely on habit or “muscle memory” but should carefully assess each situation to ensure crossing the tracks is safe.
