Railway Sabotage. Prosecutor Seeks European Arrest Warrant for Suspects

On December 1, a Polish prosecutor requested a European arrest warrant for two suspects in a railway sabotage case, prompting police to issue wanted posters and search for an alleged escape to Belarus.

Prosecutor Files European Arrest Warrant

On December 1, prosecutor Przemysław Nowak submitted a request to the Warsaw District Court for a European arrest warrant against Jewhenij Iwanow and Ołeksandr Kononow, who are suspected of carrying out sabotage on railway infrastructure in the autumn.

Police Publishes Wanted Posters

On Friday, police released images of the suspects, who face charges of espionage and terrorist acts. Earlier, a court imposed a temporary arrest on the two, prompting the prosecutor to issue an arrest warrant and launch a search.

Suspects Allegedly Fled to Belarus

Investigators claim the perpetrators, who allegedly worked for Russian services, fled to Belarus after preparing the sabotage. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the escape and noted that the suspects remain sought by authorities.

Details of Sabotage Incidents

In mid‑October, two sabotage acts occurred: damage to railway signals in Mika and a traction network break in Gołąb, both on the Warsaw East‑Dorohusk line. Both incidents were linked to the suspects.

Legal and Diplomatic Proceedings

The prosecutor has requested a European arrest warrant, and the search is underway. Transfer of the suspects to Poland will follow established procedures, taking into account all circumstances of the case.
