Iran has formally requested clarification from Germany regarding the role of the Ramstein Air Base in the context of the Middle East conflict.
Iran Seeks Clarification on Ramstein’s Role
Iran has requested the German Foreign Ministry to clarify the role of the Ramstein base concerning the war in the Middle East, according to Iranian Ambassador to Berlin, Majid Nilif, in a conversation with AFP on Thursday.
German Defense Minister Defends Ramstein’s Use
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated earlier that he currently sees “no reason to question the legality of Ramstein’s use” by the United States within the offensive conducted against Iran alongside Israel.
Concerns Over Potential Violation of UN Resolution 3314
Nilif stated that the role of Ramstein in the Middle East conflict “is not officially clear” to Iran. He suggested that the base’s use could potentially violate UN Resolution 3314, which defines allowing another country to use one’s territory to attack a third country as “aggression.”
“We do not know whether Ramstein falls into this category or not,” Nilif said, adding that he has not yet received a response from the German Foreign Ministry.
