About Valentino Garavani
Born on May 11, 1932, in Lombardy, Italy, Valentino was described by Vogue Polska as “an Italian visionary and one of the most acclaimed fashion designers in history.” In 1960, he founded the Valentino fashion house, which became one of Italy’s most important fashion brands. He sold the company in the 1990s, but it remains a significant player in the luxury fashion market.
Career and Legacy
Garavani retired in 2007, stepping aside for Alessandra Facchinetti as creative director. The fashion house has since been led by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, and currently by Alessandro Michele. As noted by Vogue, all these prominent designers have remained faithful to the inspirations and vision of the founder.
Global Impact
In 2024, the company reported total sales of 1.35 billion euros. Garavani’s designs were worn by numerous celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor, Anne Hathaway, and Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis. Some of his works are featured in the Museum of the City of New York.
